Event Managers Turning Marriages To Package Deals:

From an all-in-the-family affair, marriages are turning out to be an event and this is opening up a new market segment for event managers. While the wedding market on an average is estimated to be worth Rs 1,500 crore to Rs 2,000 crore, with the event management concept still in a nascent stage, only a part of the entire transaction is coming event managers way.

In addition to ensuring quality service, the event managers are also attracting the customers by showcasing a saving of about 20 per cent on the total cost of the event.

Of the 60 lakh population in the twin cities, event management companies are targeting the 12 lakh households, of which 12 to 15 per cent are considered rich and fall in the middle class category.

"There is a potential of 1,500 mega marriages per annum in Hyderabad itself. These are our customers who hate the burden of physical strain to organise or conduct a wedding but can happily splurge anywhere between Rs 10 lakh to Rs 50 lakh on marriage expenditures to make it magnificent. The market size is believed to be about Rs 2,000 crore, the maximum of it being the Gujaratis, Marwaris and Punjabi communities" says Ganesh Bigala, owner of Easy Events.

To enlarge the spectrum of their services, the companies take care of every minute details of wedding, from the venue, food, transportation and guests to helping clients in purchasing sarees and jewellery on discounts and facilitating honeymoon events in nations such as Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius. A city-based company even maintains a database of pundit, priests and Qazis for the customers to choose from.

"We can easily get our clients a discount of 40 per cent on Pochampally and Gadwal sarees. Travelling facilities, accommodation and possible discounts from gold merchants in Dubai can be provided for customers who want to purchase ornaments in volume. This works very cheap for them", D. Nagarjuna of Imprint family service said.

"For organising a wedding, you have to outsource work to at least 1,500 people belonging to different fields right from the local wedding card printer to an overseas travel agent. A wedding management company can make a profit of 10 to 15 per cent", Nagarjuna said.
